A lot of people like to drink some milk, but not everyone can do it without an aftermath – if you’re lactose intolerant downing a gallon on cow’s milk might not be the wisest decision for you. Fortunately there are some workarounds and substitutes.

We’d like to introduce you to our Homemade Almond Milk recipe. This one is fairly easy to replicate – all you need is a good blender (ideally with pulse function), a mesh nut bag and – of course – some almonds.

Our almond milk is lower in calories than common cow’s milk and you can put the remaining almonds into good use (e.g. using it for another baking recipe like self-made protein bars)

Recipe: Homemade Almond Milk

Ingredients

Cooking Directions

  1. First you need to soak the almonds for about 12 hours in water. Rinse from time to time and change the water. Sieve and filter any sediments (e.g. remaining almond skin).
  2. Put the soaked almonds with the water into your blender. Mix it until the almonds got blended perfectly (use pulse function), so that you don’t have any big chunks floating around anymore. Let it rest for a while.
  3. For the next step you’ll need a mesh nut bag. Filter any remaining sediments and squeeze the nut bag, until no drops of almond water come out of it.
  4. Add a pinch of sea salt, vanilla extract and honey (or sweetner) to the soon-to-be almond milk. Mix the blend thoroughly.
  5. Enjoy your homemade almond milk!

Notes & Recommendations

  • Tip 1: You can store the homemade almond milk for up to 5 days in your fridge.
  • Tip 2: Add some (nearly calorie-free) FlavDrops or MySyrup from Myprotein to enhance your homemade almond milk with a different flavor (e.g. peanut butter, white chocolate, butterscotch and so on)
