Quick Profile – Tomas Klic

  • Age: 25 (04.03.1990)Interview: Myprotein Athlete and Fitness Trainer Tomas Klic meets
  • Height: 179 cm
  • Weight (current): 86kg
  • Residence/Point of Origin: Boskovice, Czech Republic
  • When did you start training?: 16
  • Website / Online Presence: Tomas Klic Homepage & Facebook & Instagram & Youtube

How did you get started with weightlifting / bodybuilding / fitness?

I used to play Ice-hockey since I was 8 years old. I had to stop with that when I got 16, because of a back injury. And this was actually the time of my first contact with weights and the gym room.

Do you have someone or something that motivates or inspires you? Do you have any idols?

My favourite bodybuilders are Lazar Angelov, Simeon Panda and – unfortunately – the recently deceased Greg Plitt. I am also a fan of the Golden Era of Bodybuilding, so I prefer physiques, which focus more on the overall impression and aesthetics like Frank Zane.

The prototype of a successful person and my great motivator is, of course, Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Looking back at your exercise career: Which training system or routine brought you the best results?

The best training system for gaining mass, which worked very well for me, is Korte. For cutting or pre-contest phase it is a split 3+1/2+1 or 6+1.

How does your current routine look like?

  • Monday: Chest (heavy), Biceps, Cardio
  • Tuesday: Back, Triceps, Abs
  • Wednesday: Legs, Calves, Shoulders, Cardio
  • Thursday: Chest (light), Abs
  • Friday: Shoulders, Biceps, Triceps, Cardio
  • Saturday: Full-Body Workout + Abs

Do you prefer traditional cardio training or HIIT when dieting?

It depends on the starting physique. Usually I perform some traditional cardio on 3 times of the week for about 30 minutes – right after training session, but if I need to cut down faster (e.g. before competitions) it may be up to 5 times a week for an hour in the morning and another hour right after weight training.

If you had to pick only 3 exercises, what would they be and why?

  • Deadlift
  • Squat
  • Incline Bench-press.

These are the major exercises for everyone who takes the gym seriously and they are the best exercises for strength and mass gain.

What is your diet like?

Interview Tomas KlicIt depends on whether I want to cut down for a competition/photoshoot or just maintain the physique. While on a pre-contest diet I do carb cycling and my protein intake is only from beef, chicken breast and egg whites. In off-season I use quite varied meal plan like this one.

Sample Meal Plan

  • 1 Meal: Omelette from instant oats and eggs (80-120g oats, 6-8 egg whites, 1-2 yolks)
  • 2 Meal: Cottage cheese (200g), whole corn bread (100g)
  • 3 Meal: Whey protein shake (1 scoop), fruit (one piece)
  • 4 Meal: Chicken breast / Fish (200g), rice (130g), veggies
  • 5 Meal (post workout): Whey protein (1 scoop)
  • 6 Meal: Beef (200g), veggies
  • 7 Meal: Quark / cottage cheese (200g)

Do you take supplements? If so, how does your current supplementation look like?

My current supplementation list:

Do you use any pre-workout supplements or boosters? What is the most important aspect in those kind of products for you?

I tried many of them, but currently I use MyPRE from Myprotein and this supplement gives me all what I need for training – improved performance and focus. It contains the important BCAAs, caffeine and different types of creatine.

If you had to pick only 3 supplements, what would they be and why?

  • Whey Protein – because it is necessary for muscle gain/regeneration
  • Pre-Workout supplement – because it helps to go further in training intensity
  • Vitamins – because they are the necessary for all biochemical functions in human body

Do you have a favourite quote?

„Stay hungry, stay healthy, be a gentleman, believe strongly in yourself and go beyond limitations.“

“You can have anything you want if you are willing to give up the belief that you can’t have it.”

Are you religious?

Tomas Klic Double BicepsI don’t go to church, but I believe that there is something greater what we will never be even able to understand.

Are you currently working on any interesting projects you’d like finish in the near future?

Currently I work on master’s degree from pharmacy. I am in the last fifth year of the course so it’s the most important thing for me at the moment. After I finish studies I want to move out from Europe, travel more and somehow combine my pharmacy knowledge/job with fitness.

What was the single best decision in or thing that brought you the most in life? What advice would you like give to our readers?

My best decision was to take a chance and visit the U.S.A., try compete at foreign competition like Arnold Classic, make new contacts and meet new people.

Do what you like. Do what fulfils you. Don’t be afraid to take a chance, don’t be afraid to fail, it will be at least another experience what could help you in the future. I believe that everything happens for a reason, and everything bad is good for something else.

Thanks for the informative interview, Tomas – and good luck with your studies and your future career!
